If you are new to this service, please read the sections below before you start as they contain important information about the scope of the records the online card catalogue contains.
The card catalogue forms a record of items acquired by UCL Library Services until the early 1980s when the computerised catalogue began. A continuous programme of adding records to Explore, the online catalogue, is in place: the card catalogue has not always been amended when a title is added to Explore nor when material has been physically moved within the Library.
Always use Explore first to look for material currently held by any part of the Library.
Many of the items recorded in the card catalogue will be housed in the Library's Special Collections or offsite Store; that is, not readily available without prior arrangement. A list of classmarks and closed access locations is available separately.
Please check with library staff by emailing email@example.com before travelling from any distance to consult material recorded only in the card catalogue and with an open shelf location.
It is not necessary to be a member of the Library to request items from Store or to arrange to visit Special Collections, but visitors will need to complete the membership procedure before being allowed access to any material. Please see the information for visitors page for further information.
